The Art Teacher is responsible for creating and delivering an innovative art curriculum for students in grades 5 – 8. The Art Teacher uses a creative, multi-media approach so students learn and continue to display creative expression in many ways and engage in projects that connect art to other topics being explored in the classroom. In addition to the below duties and responsibilities, the Art Teacher will be positive, collaborative, innovative, and passionate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Further develops, implements, assesses and modifies, as necessary, a dynamic visual art program for grades 5 -8 that aligns with Congressional’s mission, vision, and values.
Prepares and implements art lessons for grades 5 – 8 that educate students on the use of a broad number of artistic materials and tools.
Provides a variety of learning experiences, balancing teacher-led and student-directed learning in the visual arts.
Maintains a gallery display of student art in hallways, lobbies, and other creative spaces.
May serve as middle school advisor.
Provide artistic support for special projects and events, including the school musical.
Supervises the production of the school yearbook.
Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible, constructive and resourceful manner.
Actively supports the school philosophy, community, and policies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in art or education.
Minimum 2 – 3 years’ experience teaching middle school art education in an independent school preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices.
