Georgetown Day School, an independent Pre-K-12 school in Washington, D.C., seeks high school vocal studies teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. This may be a part or full-time position, depending on the applicant pool. Primary job responsibilities include teaching two classes (Honors A Cappella and Singing for Music Theatre) as well as managing various student-led choral groups during their rehearsals and performances. In addition to the regular school day duties the vocal studies teacher prepares students to perform at concerts and recitals several times a year at various venues. These events include, but are not limited to: assemblies, the spring musical, the independent school choral festival, the High School performing arts showcase and graduation. Secondary responsibilities involve serving as an advisor. Rich content, creative pedagogy and authentic relationships are essential components of a GDS classroom. The ability to provide those elements, work collaboratively with colleagues, and place the students’ interests and experiences at the heart of the classroom is an essential component of the job. Qualifications: vocal and instrumental music proficiency, a strong background in music theory and musicianship, basic piano skills, and a B.S. in music or a related field are required. A Master’s degree, professional experience as a musician and conductor, and three years or more of teaching experience are preferred.
