Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School invites applications for the full-time position of Director of Christian Service for the 2017-18 academic year. Located in Washington, DC, and founded in 1799, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School educates young women in grades 9 – 12 in a faith-centered community focused on educational excellence and rooted in the Roman Catholic faith and Salesian tradition. The Georgetown Visitation Christian Service program seeks to sponsor diverse, meaningful, and relevant opportunities for members of the school community to live out the spiritual and corporal works of mercy in direct service to others. Visitation’s dedication to social justice is core to the school’s mission to help nurture young women of faith, vision, and purpose.
The Director works with all audiences within the school community, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumnae, to build a network of support for service opportunities, fundraising efforts, and school-wide service projects. The Director of Christian Service is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing the school’s community outreach efforts, as well as coordinating the students’ efforts to fulfill their eighty-hour graduation service requirement. The Director of Christian Service also helps to integrate a spirit of service into the daily life of the school and the students through prayers and liturgies, in the classroom, and through regular and meaningful service experiences and reflection. Particular partnership with members of the Religion Department, Campus Ministry team, and Salesian Center helps to ensure success of the school’s service initiatives.
Successful candidates should have a strong background in service learning, along with energy, enthusiasm, and a deep commitment to Gospel values. Organizational skills, attention to detail, facility with technology to support accurate record keeping, and willingness to lead and chaperone diverse local, national, and international service experiences in education and partnership with young women are essential. A Bachelors / Masters degree in a relevant field is preferred.
