The Academy of the Holy Cross is accepting resumes for a Physics teacher for the current academic year. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching Physics, including all aspects of mechanics, optics, sound, electricity, magnetism, thermodynamics, and topics in modern physics. It is expected that the teacher will actively engage students, create student-centered lesson plans, assign and provide prompt feedback on a variety of assessments, effectively incorporate educational technology in the classroom and laboratory and communicate with students and their parents.

The Physics Teacher will instruct students in Physics concepts, analysis, and problem-solving. Prepare for classes using formal, written lesson plans, follow the syllabus for the course being taught and collaborate on pacing and major assessments with fellow teachers. Evaluate student work and maintain up-to-date records of student assessments and grades. Maintain a pleasant and productive class environment that is student-centered and conducive to learning. Collaborate with the Science Department and with other faculty and staff.
At the time of the interview, candidates should present copies of their own academic transcripts, samples of assessments and syllabi.
Bachelors degree in Science or Science Education or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred
Three years teaching at the high school level desirable, with proof of content knowledge and skills
Experience teaching algebra-based IB or AP Physics, including all aspects of mechanics, optics, sound, electricity, magnetism, thermodynamics, and topics in modern physics
Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing
Ability and willingness to plan and organize materials and lessons
Ability and desire to work effectively with adolescents as well as with adult colleagues
Flexibility in dealing with changing schedules and situations
Must be able to contribute creatively to planning and collaboration
Must be comfortable teaching students in an all-girl Catholic School
The Academy of the Holy Cross, is a private, Catholic high school (grades 9 - 12) for young women located in Kensington, MD. The college preparatory program reflects a holistic approach to education by fostering the intellectual, physical and moral development of the students.
