Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School, an independent co-educational primary school located in Washington D.C., seeks Second Grade Teacher (parental leave position) beginning March 1, 2018 through June 2018.
Partner with the Co-Teacher in the planning, organization, and delivery of lesson and instruction in the following curricular areas: language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, technology integration, and character education
Partner with the teachers to foster a warm, welcoming, and nurturing classroom environment; this includes taking a proactive approach to building relationships with parents
Participate in an engaged manner in all scheduled field trips and outdoor curricular activities
Communicate the observed academic and social growth of each student in preparation for conferences and the writing of student reports and in the assessment of students; share in this task fully
Plan and implement weekly word study and reading group sessions for small group of second graders
Actively participate in classroom life by affirming, redirecting and managing student behavior and by addressing student needs and social concerns
Work proactively to become familiar with and help maintain established classroom routines and daily needs of the classroom including lesson preparation
Work proactively to become familiar with previously established goals for the classroom and for individual students
Work to establish authentic relationships with students, families, and fellow second grade teachers
Complete classroom tasks in a timely manner including homework, preparation, classroom décor and artwork displays
Attend to daily recess and lunch duties
Take a studious approach to becoming familiar with Beauvoir's approach to implementing the following curricula: writing workshop, mathematics, global studies, reading groups, and word study
Attend weekly meeting of the Second Grade Team
Teaching Experience Required
