Founded in 1978, St. Andrew’s is a co-educational independent day school, enrolling approximately 585 students in preschool-grade 12. The school has two campuses three miles apart. The Potomac Village Campus (preschool-grade 2) is on the grounds of St. Francis Episcopal Church and the 19-acre Postoak Campus (grades 3-12) is on Postoak Road in Potomac. Since 2008 St. Andrew’s has renovated or newly built each of its buildings and outdoor spaces, culminating in the opening of the new 43,000-square-foot Student Center in 2016 on the Postoak Campus.
St. Andrew’s has earned international recognition as a destination school for research-informed teaching, learning, and leadership development. Its Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (www.thecttl.org) has trained 100% of the St. Andrew’s faculty in the foundations of Mind, Brain, and Education Science research. As leaders in the research-to-practice movement, St. Andrew’s teachers and students conduct original educational research with faculty from The Johns Hopkins University School of Education and Research Schools International, led by individual faculty members at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. CTTL publications and training have influenced more than 10,000 teachers and school leaders internationally. In the Lower School, the Extended Day Teacher collaborates with the Extended Day faculty in designing and implementing the program, and reports to the Extended Day Director. The Extended Day Teacher a part-time teaching position that is contracted from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Supervise and care for children
Possess education and experience appropriate to age and ability level of the students
Collaborate constructively with colleagues
Lead activities that give children opportunities to learn and play
Plan a curriculum that develops on the themes, concepts, and expectations of the day school program
Ensure a well-balanced program by preparing daily lesson plans and long-term schedules of activities
Follow sign-in and sign-out procedures
Communicate effectively both verbally and electronically with parents about their child’s day
Follow established operating procedures at all times.
Maintain a clean, safe environment and leave the area in an orderly fashion upon departure
Attend staff meetings, school functions, and in-house training sessions as required
Support the spirit of our Episcopal school
Perform other duties as assigned
