Founded in 1952, Norwood School is a coeducational day school with approximately 440 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The school sits on 38 beautiful and expansive acres in Bethesda, Maryland, less than six miles from Washington, D.C. As one of the finest K-8 (soon to be PK-8) schools in the country, Norwood sets the bar high and is committed to educating the whole child in a student-centered, challenging, and nurturing environment.
Norwood has an opening for an experienced, dynamic, child-centered educator to teach kindergarten through eighth grade physical education. This is a full time position beginning in the 2017-18 school year. Responsibilities include coordinating with other members of the physical education department as well as other colleagues, coaching, reporting on student progress, and completing various other duties connected to being a full-time faculty member.
Ideally, applicants should have at least two years of prior experience teaching kindergarten through eighth grades. A philosophy that values the importance of teaching teamwork, cooperation, and responsibility strongly preferred, as are solid writing abilities and communication skills. Coaching a broad range of sports at the middle school level is a plus; experience in teaching cooperative games and individual sports such as tumbling, yoga, weight training, badminton, etc. is helpful. Bachelor’s degree in physical education required; master’s degree preferred.
