The Madeira School is one of the country's premier boarding/day schools for girls with a century of serving the needs of a wide variety of young women from around the country and the world. Located just outside of Washington, DC, on the banks of the Potomac River, in McLean, VA, Madeira enrolls 320 students in grades 9-12.
The Madeira School seeks a part-time Director of Choral Music to join its faculty. The successful candidate will support and achieve the School’s mission and vision by effectively facilitating learning in student-centered college preparatory classrooms. Responsibilities:
Teach and direct the choral program, including directing the music for the winter musical
Responsible for selecting a variety of music, working directly with the accompanist, directing all rehearsals, teaching basic music theory and sight-signing, and conducting concerts throughout the year both on and off campus
Complies with the School’s academic practices and aligns with departmental and School mission and vision
Rehearsals during the afternoon and/or evening (generally 6:30 pm – 7:20 pm Monday/Wednesday evenings throughout the school year plus daily 2:45 pm – 4:15 pm afternoon rehearsals during the winter season for the musical)
Participation in school assemblies and events
Bachelor's degree in music, music education or choral conducting; Master's degree a plus
