Reports and is administratively accountable to the director of finance and business operations in matters of the provision of health services within the school.
Collaborates with the school consulting pediatrician and/or the school consulting psychiatrist as needed in matters of individual and community health.
Major Areas of Responsibility - Students:
Collects, maintains, reviews, and files annual student health records:
Medication Administration forms/orders
Individualized physician-ordered care plans
Develops and/or follows individualized care plans relating to the following health issues for students in accordance with data received from other members of the health team:
Administers medications and treatments to students as ordered by a physician and authorized by a parent.
Stores individual students' medications properly laBeled for ready access.
Maintains a confidential "Concerns List" of students with life-threatening helath issues.
Advises faculty on need-to-know basis of students' individual health issues.
Ministers to the daily health (illness/injury) concerns of students, identifying immediate and/or long-term issues, and advising parents and faculty as necessary.
Works with dietary staff and table masters to ensure the safety of students with food allergies.
Perpares first-aid bags for field trips.
Conducts morning "sick-call" for resident students, notifies dorm master on duty of health issues, arranges for medical/dental appointments, and delegates specific evening care to be executed by the dorm master on duty for ill/injured students. Files insurance reimbursement forms for medical/dental visits made by resiident students.
Maintains a written record of each student visit to the health room, including the reason for the visit, assessment , and action taken.
Communicates with parents and health professionals as ne eded to promote health and safety of individual students.
Monitors immunization status to prevent communicable disease. Reports the occurrence of immunization -preventable diseases or outbreaks of contagious disease within the school to the local Department of Health.
Attends Administrative and Upper and Lower school Counseling meetings.
Is licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with the mandates of the District of Columbia Board of Nursing.
Holds a ba bachelor's degree in nursing or related field.
Has two years' previous experience in a school, pediatric, or public-health nursing.
