Burgundy Lower School teachers plan and teach a differentiated, integrated curriculum in a partial team-teaching model. Classroom teachers are responsible for teaching social/emotional skills, language arts, social studies, and math. Preferred applicants will have considerable elementary teaching experience, a familiarity with progressive education, and a passion for working with elementary-aged children. Teachers report directly to the Assistant Head of School.
The qualified candidate will have:
Genuine love of learning and desire to work with children as a facilitator of learning
A degree with a major in Elementary Education or a related field
Collaborative spirit and interest in team-teaching to create a joyful learning environment
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to organize and manage a positive classroom grounded in a belief that all learning begins with attending to children’s developmental social and emotional needs
Willingness to teach and adapt an integrated, inquiry-based curriculum
Commitment to teaching diverse learning styles and differentiated instruction
Interest in outdoor, hands-on and environmental education
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teach all subjects according to the stated curriculum, demonstrate thorough planning
Maintain an emphasis on preparing students for the joys and challenges of learning
Perform necessary administrative tasks and attend required meetings and events, including Back to School Night
Engage in reflective practice and various professional growth activity
Help lead student field trips including 3-day trip to our West Virginia campus
Conduct Fall Parent-Teacher conferences
Provide written information about student progress at the end of the maternity leave
Dates for this maternity leave position are expected to be August 24-Nov 21, 2017 with the possibility of continuing through the year as a permanent Jk-8 substitute teacher.
Arrive by 8:00 a.m., depart after 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, except Tuesday, when faculty meetings begin at 3:30 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.
The School is closed for most national holidays, as well as Winter and Spring Break.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary will be based on a per diem rate that will be partially determined by level of experience.
Benefits would apply if a full-year contract is negotiated.
