The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates to fill the position of High School English Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The ideal candidate is a warm, creative, charismatic educator with a record of highly successful experience in the teaching of literature, writing, critical thinking, and 21st century skills at the high school level. Their classroom features a strong emphasis on student-centered learning and stresses higher-order analysis and writing skills, while empowering students to take responsibility for their learning. Leading candidates forge positive relationships with their students and colleagues, enjoy working closely in collaborative teams, and utilize differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners within their classroom. Positive behavior management is a hallmark of the teachers practice. The ideal candidates classroom is one that features a strong emphasis on student-centered learning to best develop critical thinking and analytical as well as creative writing skills.
Responsibilities:
Teaching English literature and writing to students in grades 9-12;
Participating in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss student progress;
Working collaboratively within the English Department and High School Faculty
Student advising
Other duties as assigned by the High School Principal
Qualifications:
A minimum of a BA in English, English education or a related field is required. An MA degree is preferred.
Minimum three years of successful teaching experience working collaboratively at the high school level.
Experience in differentiated instruction, student-centered instruction and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.
Fluency with technology required.
Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) required.
