Maret is looking for an inspiring and engaging part-time Upper School Choral Director (25%), a role that can be combined with the part-time position of Music Director for the Upper School winter musical. Candidates should have a passion for teaching students of various musical abilities and backgrounds. A collaborative spirit and a desire to work in concert with the mission of the Performing Arts Department and Maret as a whole are essential. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in their work.
The successful candidate will:
Be an expert vocalist and conductor; pit orchestra conducting experience a plus;
Provide instruction in music theory, appreciation, and music literacy applied to the choral art form;
Teach healthy vocal production within diverse musical genres
Display solid and consistent classroom management skills and enthusiasm for working with Upper School students;
Possess excellent communication skills that allow clear communication with students as well as members of the Performing Arts department and Maret faculty, in particular to plan and coordinate music and drama performances;
Basic piano skills are necessary; collaborative pianist support is provided for some classes and all concerts;
Have a degree in vocal pedagogy, voice performance, or choral conducting (preferred);
Have a minimum of three years of choral teaching (preferred).
