National Cathedral School announces a search for a long-term substitute mathematics teacher in the Middle School. The position is a leave replacement that begins in August 2018, and concludes Feb. 13, 2019. The candidate will teach four sections of 7th-grade pre-algebra, using a flipped classroom model. NCS math teachers use a variety of techniques in the classroom and are comfortable integrating technology into the curriculum. The school expects candidates to have a facility with differentiated instruction as well as curricular and pedagogical innovation. Qualified candidates hold a bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred) and have relevant teaching experience. Candidates must also seek collaborative professional experiences, interact well with parents, and have experience working with adolescent girls. NCS teachers utilize a student-centered pedagogy and a fully integrated 1:1 iPad program.
Teachers are expected to be at school from 7:45 am to 3:45 pm, although there will be occasional days when meetings are held before or after school; faculty are also expected to participate regularly in the life of the school during the work day and occasional after-school or evening events. Responsibilities for this position also include collaboration with and full participation in a school-wide math department to ensure excellent scope and sequence; attendance at regular department, division, and faculty meetings; and supervision of one or more study halls. Substitutes are paid only for days worked; federal and school holidays are unpaid. NCS is committed to leadership in multicultural education and a culturally diverse faculty and staff.
