Green Acres School seeks a part-time (20-hours/weekly) administrative assistant mainly to support the work of the Lower School Head, but also to provide some support to the Director of the Early Childhood Unit. This person will collaborate with staff in the Lower School’s daily operations. Previous employment at a school or educational institution is preferable, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel, in particular) and Veracross (or a similar database). Qualified candidates must be skilled at writing and editing, highly organized, and detail-oriented. The ability to interact enthusiastically with students (Pre-K to grade 8), parents, teachers, administrators, and community members is a key component of this position. Tasks and attributes required include:
Answer emails, maintain correspondence, and compose emails to the community announcing grade and school events
Read and edit student reports, Lower School newsletters, and curriculum statements
Maintain calendar for the Lower School Division Heads with attention to other administrators’ calendars and school events
Schedule meetings with teachers, administrators, parents, and visitors
Prepare for Back-to-School Night and other Lower School events by organizing communications materials and helping with set-up procedures
Assist the Director of Pre-K with administrative tasks related to the Maryland Office of Child Care
Maintain files, records, and database for students
Coordinate Lower School substitutes when teachers need coverage for absences
Coordinate and arrange schedules for visitors to school, including parents, teachers, education professionals, and other guests
Demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, and generosity of spirit
Serve as an advocate for progressive education
A completed undergraduate degree
Excellent writing and editing skills
Facility with technology and databases
Experience working in a school or in an educational organization preferred
