Sidwell Friends, a co-educational Quaker day school located in Washington, DC, seeks an experienced Librarian to manage the daily operations of its Upper School (Grades 9-12) library, one of the most vibrant and dynamic spaces in the School. The Upper School Librarian oversees circulation and reference services, cataloging, subscriptions, interlibrary loan, and student behavior while generally preserving the library as a productive space for research and study. He/she will work on a daily basis with faculty and students on academically sophisticated research projects. The successful candidate will be able to communicate and actualize a vision of what information services and literacy mean in the 21st century. The Librarian manages a staff consisting of one library assistant and numerous student workers.
An MLS or equivalent and a minimum of three years experience as a school Librarian are required. An appreciation for the School’s commitment to academic and personal excellence, Quaker values, and the prizing of diversity and environmental stewardship is essential.
