Sheridan is seeking dynamic, collaborative, student-centered lower school teachers with a background in and a passion for progressive, social-justice education. Multiple openings are possible and the specific grade levels will be identified as soon as possible during the recruitment process. Sheridan’s program integrates Reading and Writing Workshop and Responsive Classroom into classrooms with about 25 students and two full-time, lead teachers. A high interest in and commitment to collaboration is a must. No standardized testing is administered and strong, fully-funded professional development opportunities are available.
The successful candidates will have a thorough background in progressive instruction, experience using a variety of assessment techniques, strong instructional and classroom-management skills and experience working closely with colleagues and parents. Teachers also accompany classes on overnight trips to the school's Mountain Campus. Additional responsibilities include regular communication with parents, participation in department and faculty meetings, and lunch and recess duties several times a week.

Sheridan is an independent, co-educational, K-8 school located in northwest Washington, DC, offering a progressive, concept-based curriculum that promotes social justice and utilizes Reading and Writing Workshop and Responsive Classroom.
