National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for a Spanish teacher in its Lower School (grades 4-6) for an appointment beginning in August 2019. The primary goal of the NCS World Languages department is to develop students in the fundamentals of vocabulary, grammar, and syntax while fostering the skills required for language study. Language classes in the Lower School focus on developing oral proficiency and an appreciation for the diverse cultures in which the languages derive. Students practice speaking in class while improving their writing and grammatical skills.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate native or near-native fluency in Spanish, have experience in teaching Spanish, preferably at the elementary-school level, and show a commitment to working with this age group. Qualified candidates also hold at least a bachelor’s degree in Spanish or a related field (master’s degree preferred). The successful candidate will help students embrace a love of Spanish while maintaining a challenging curriculum within a nurturing environment.
The Lower School day is from 7:45 am through 3:45 pm, although faculty are expected to start earlier or extend the workday occasionally for meetings, professional development, student assistance, etc. Other responsibilities include regular grade-level, department, division, and full faculty meetings and other duties as assigned. Salary is competitive, based on experience, and the position includes a full benefits package.
