Founded in 1952, Norwood School is a coeducational, independent day school with approximately 450 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Norwood has an opening for an experienced and dynamic 3rd grade homeroom teacher to work with approximately 16-18 students. Successful candidates will have experience developing the academic and social-emotional growth of students within the upper elementary age range. In this position, the teacher supports instruction in reading, language arts, math, and social studies, as well as in general, pro-social homeroom curriculum. Reading and math are collaboratively co-taught with subject area specialists who push into the classroom for instruction. Strong applicants will have a deep commitment to child-centered instruction and a demonstrated knowledge of Readers and Writers Workshop Units of Study. Prior experience with the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum is preferred. Strong candidates will have demonstrated experience in highly-collaborative instructional environments.
Applicants for the 3rd grade homeroom teacher position must have at least three years of experience working with students in upper elementary grades. Strong applicants will have a demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse, inclusive school setting with a child-centered pedagogy. Additional qualifications include excellent communication skills, flexibility, sense of humor, and a love for working with children.
