National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for an assistant instructor of the Voyageur Program, which is offered to students grades 4 through 12 of St. Albans School and National Cathedral School. NCS seeks an outdoor educator with a passion for working with children and young adults. This position involves daily skills instruction with additional instruction on field trips throughout the school year.

Experience in safely implementing an outdoor education curriculum with many different skills components.
It is particularly important that the applicant have a genuine care for and interest in working with primary- and secondary-school age students.
Outdoor Skills: Top-rope climbing and site management, gym climbing, route setting, lead climbing, mountaineering, cross country skiing, backpacking/wilderness living, group initiatives, wilderness ethics/leave no trace, and athletic conditioning. Also helpful: Whitewater kayaking, tandem and solo canoeing, whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, and river rescue
Certifications: Wilderness First Responder and CPR (required); must hold or obtain commercial driver’s license (passenger certificate with excellent driving record); must hold or obtain a Maryland Climbing Instructor Certification or equivalent American Mountain Guides Association or Professional Climbing Instructors Association; must hold or obtain American Canoe Association (ACA) Level 4: Whitewater Kayak Instructor Certification.
Salary is competitive, based on experience, and the position includes a full benefits package. Qualified candidates hold a bachelor’s degree and have pertinent experience and background.
