The Chaplain’s duties are diverse and include leading weekly worship, teaching religion classes, offering pastoral care, and fulfilling administrative responsibilities. The Chaplain epitomizes the school’s core values and Episcopal identity, and works alongside the school’s leadership to ensure the implementation of the school’s mission. The Chaplain reports directly to the Head of School. This is a 12-month position.
Prepare and preside over weekly Early Childhood Chapel, weekly Chapel for Grades 1-8, and special/All-School Chapels throughout the year
Model and encourage regular prayer
Oversee a religion curriculum that reflects the mission, core values, and Episcopal identity of the school, and that increases the religious literacy of our students
Teach religion classes to selected grades in the Elementary and Middle School Divisions
Assist teachers with developing classroom lessons that correspond with the school’s mission, core values, and Episcopal identity
Provide pastoral counseling services to students, families, faculty, and staff as needed
Coordinate parent led support systems for community members in times of need
Support the Student Support Team; the Community Service Committee/program; and the Diversity, Inclusivity, and Justice Committee/program
Coordinate the “Safeguarding God’s Children” program
Serve as a liaison to the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES), and the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association (MAESA)
Successful candidates will possess the following:
Episcopal ordination (or on the ordination path)
Masters or other advanced degree preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High energy level, creativity, positive attitude, and flexibility
Ability to successfully develop and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues, and school families
Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty to plan and implement curriculum
Willingness to support the philosophy of the school
