Math Specialist – Part Time PT/10 month, Full Benefits Eligible Supervisor: Head of School Position: The Math Specialist is responsible for teaching, motivating, inspiring, and assessing our students in Pre-K – 2nd Grade. The perfect candidate possesses a firm understanding of advanced mathematics and will invigorate and implement the PDS math program by facilitating various forms of professional development, and leading conversation about curriculum, vertical alignment, and math pedagogy. This position will primarily work with teachers and will also collaborate with various members of the school’s administrative team. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, assessing, and supporting a dynamic mathematics program. The Math Specialist will use a variety of methods, materials, and techniques used to teach mathematics. This position is a subject-specific expert and will be a resource for students and faculty in the areas of math curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment. - Design and implement assessments PK-2.
- Design and implement differentiated lessons and units of instruction, honoring diverse learning styles, and teaching students how to learn.
- Implement the Singapore (Math in Focus) methodology to help students develop into confident and proficient problem solvers.
- Examine PDS math standards, curriculum, and pedagogy in service of identifying potential areas of growth.
- Make continuous improvements in key processes, techniques, and procedures related to the math program to ensure student learning.
- Collaborate with teachers to design and deliver innovative, challenging and age-appropriate math lessons to students. Share and model best practices in teaching math with mathematics teachers.
- Collaborate with other colleagues and specialists during regular planning sessions.
- Use technology to effectively enhance and extend developmentally appropriate instruction.
- Assist students to master skills in math.
- Build an environment of trust and champion teamwork/cooperation.

- Perform non-teaching duties in order to support and assist students as assigned.

Professional Responsibilities and Development: - Attend workshops and conferences (such as AISGW, AIMS, NCTM)
- Attend training in Responsive Classroom Levels I and II.
- Share knowledge gained from these experiences with your colleagues.
- Incorporate new knowledge into teaching strategies to increase student learning.
- Supervise, direct and develop social interaction among the children.
- Have an understanding of health/allergy concerns of students and know how to assist them if necessary.
Additional Requirements: - Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

- Attendance at all school/staff meetings and in-service workshops.
- Attendance at all school events: Admission Events, Back-to-School Night, Book Fair and Gala.
- Attend CPR, AED and First Aid Classes for certification.
- Assess children’s progress through observation and evaluation of work.
- Communicate with parents as needed.
- Federal and State Background Check clearance.
