St. Andrew’s Episcopal School seeks an inspiring Spanish teacher who supports students to be global citizens and active members of our local communities, linguistically and culturally. The Lower School Spanish program aims to introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning while also facilitating the development of strong interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication skills, which can be applied both in and out of the classroom. This dynamic teacher will inspire students to learn Spanish and will work collaboratively with colleagues in various curricular areas across the division.

Interested candidates must demonstrate advanced proficiency in Spanish and have a strong knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary. Candidates should be passionate about teaching and celebrating the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world and should be committed to collaborating with colleagues. Preference will be given to candidates that have training in second language instruction and successful teaching experience in a lower school setting. Candidates should be comfortable using a blended approach based on ACTFL's standards and conducting classes primarily in Spanish while incorporating a deep focus on cross-cultural understanding.

Lower School Spanish Teacher: Job Description

The Lower School Spanish Teacher reports directly to the Co-Heads of Lower School. This full-time, ten-month teaching position begins on August 17, 2021 with hours of 8:00 - 4:00 p.m. daily. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:

• Support the students’ acquisition of Spanish through engaging and hands-on activities, songs, and games.
• Develop an appreciation and understanding of the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
• Prepare course objectives, outlines, and lesson plans for the appropriate courses of study, following curriculum guidelines and school requirements
• Demonstrate and differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student learning profiles
• Encourage student confidence and foster resiliency and risk-taking as it relates to learning a second language
• Integrate iPad, laptop, and smartboard technology to support language instruction when appropriate
• Collaborate with other homeroom teachers to integrate Spanish and homeroom lessons where appropriate
• Collaborate with divisional special subject and homeroom teachers to organize and implement the annual World Language Festival.
• Collaborate with faculty members, school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan
• Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning classroom as well as monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Assess student progress towards learning targets, objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations and student's achievements, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. 
• Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and to improve student achievement
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
• Support the Episcopal identity of the Institution
• Perform other duties as assigned
