Summary Description:
Reporting to the Head of School and working closely with the Head of School, the other Division Head, and the rest of the leadership team, Division Heads are responsible for all aspects of the division-specific education at Green Acres. The Middle School Head has responsibility for the curricular program, the instructional methods and methodology, student discipline, and academic concerns. The Middle School Head should steward families, communicate with the wider community, and be a visible and approachable leader within the division and the school.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Schoolwide Responsibilities
- Participate with the leadership team in strategic and operational processes.
- Represent the division on the leadership team.
- Represent the division on the Heads group.
- Represent the division on the admissions committee.
- Partner with the Head of School, senior leadership team and Board of Trustees in managing and developing efficient and effective methods to steward the School’s annual operating budget to meet short term needs and long term strategic goals and objectives.
- Develop and participate in strategic planning discussions to achieve long-term programmatic sustainability in the division.
- Serve as a liaison with the parent community in regard to the division.
- Attend board meetings and other school events.
- Participate in hiring committees for non-teaching staff.
- Write articles for divisional and schoolwide publications.
- Lead in the organization and running of graduation (Middle School) and the 4th grade promotion ceremony. (Lower School)
Instruction and Curriculum
- Lead in the evaluation of the divisional curriculum and program.
- Supervise the development and mapping of new curricular units within the division.
- Evaluate divisional curriculum maps and supervise their revision.
- Engage teachers in substantive discussions of their practice based on formal and drop-in observations.
- Support teachers as they develop best instructional practices.
- Facilitate conversations among teachers about instructional practice.
Student Leadership and Behavior Management
- Develop productive working relationships with students.
- Guide and support teachers’ implementation of effective classroom management strategies.
- Manage outlying student behavior.
- Lead decision-making on behavior management issues and communicate those decisions appropriately.
- Contribute to and lead student assemblies and meetings (Middle School).
- Lead 8th graders in the development of graduation performances. (Middle School)
Staff Leadership
- Develop productive working relationships with staff.
- Observe, supervise, and evaluate teachers.
- Contribute to staff meeting schedule.
- Contribute to and run applicable sessions during the new staff orientation program in August and during monthly mentoring meetings throughout the year.
- Interview and observe teacher applicants for hiring.
- Lead the decision-making process in the hiring of division-specific instructional staff.
- Plan and run division meetings.
- Plan and implement professional development days and sessions.
Communication
- Promote the philosophy and mission of the school.
- Plan and run parent coffees.
- Plan, organize, and lead Back-to-School Nights.
- Attend retention meetings and some marketing meetings.
- Communicate with parents about upcoming divisional events such as conferences.
- Proofread, edit, and provide feedback to teachers with regards to report card narratives and comments.
Other Responsibilities
- Approve and code budget expenditures for division.
- Approve divisional leave requests.
- Screen and select student teacher applicants. (Lower School Head)
- Screen applicants for admission. (Lower School)
- Organize, schedule, and execute events preparing 7th and 8th grade families for the high school application process including interview prep and information sessions. (Middle School)
- Schedule and meet with each 8th grade family over the 7 to 8 summer to get them ready for the high school application process. (Middle School)
- Advocate for 8th graders with local high schools, verbally and in writing. (Middle School)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited, not-for-profit college/university with major coursework or extensive experience in education.
- At least 2 years in a leadership position in a school.
- Experience working with similarly-aged students in schools.
- 5 years of teaching experience (preferred).
- Master’s Degree or higher in an educational-related field such as Leadership or Curriculum & Instruction

- Ability to work under pressure generated by the needs of the organization.
