The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications reports to and works in tandem with the Director of Marketing and Communications to conceptualize, design, and execute the school’s marketing and communication strategies, aligned with The Field School’s mission and core values. The primary focus of this role is the planning and creation of multimedia content that effectively tells the story of The Field School and the student experience. This position also supports campus initiatives (enrollment, retention, community engagement, fundraising efforts, special events, and all school programs) through marketing and communication efforts. The person in this role is the primary graphic designer, photographer, videographer, website designer, and social media content creator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support strategic initiatives supporting Field’s mission, core values, and the School’s distinctive place in the DC independent school market.
- Support admissions, advancement, and overall school messaging and storytelling that highlights the student-family-alumni experiences,
- Manage website updates, including brand alignment, utility, and written and visual content; possess a strong understanding of SEO/SEM
- Enhance the School’s social media presence to be intentional, engaging, and relevant
- Act as the School’s day-to-day photographer, and videographer to create compelling, original, and platform-specific content across all media platforms
- Interview students and teachers to produce written and visual stories
- Design graphic elements across all school departments that represent the School’s brand, voice, and style guidelines to reach a variety of audiences
- Establish relationships and manage orders with third-party vendors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in communications, journalism, marketing, graphic design, or related field
- A minimum of five years of professional experience directly related to marketing, communications, social media, graphic design, video production, or related field.
- Strong storytelling skills utilizing visual, written, and verbal communication implementation, strategies, and techniques
- Excellent graphic design skills, with experience in designing marketing pieces in a variety of media and formats
- Experience working with website design and content management
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, Constant Contact or related program, social media platforms, and Google Suite; experience with Blackbaud a plus
- Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and proofreading
- Thorough knowledge of communications best practices, tools, and trends
- Well-versed in brand management, multimedia content creation, storytelling, engagement tactics, and analysis
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple constituencies
- Outstanding attention to detail and ability to follow through with multiple overlapping projects
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings and select weekends for school-related events
