St. Andrew’s faculty and staff uphold a powerfully innovative, positive culture that challenges and supports one of the most broadly diverse student bodies in greater Washington. The school seeks growth-minded, highly motivated, collaborative faculty and staff who will continue the school’s growth and focus on the development of each student’s full potential.
As a Responsive Classroom school, the Lower School provides a balance of academic rigor and emotional and social nurturing. From interdisciplinary design thinking projects, active participatory lessons, monthly field trips, and service-learning activities, teachers craft a positive, engaging, structured environment where students learn to become invested, self-motivated learners. This exciting opportunity will require a faculty member who can work collaboratively with fellow teachers and administrators, while also possessing the confidence and knowledge to be a curricular leader. We encourage interested candidates to find out more about the school by visiting www.saes.org.
Science Instruction: St. Andrew’s Lower School is seeking strong candidates who have a degree in science, education, or related fields and three or more years of teaching experience. This teacher enthusiastically combines a love and curiosity for all sciences with the joy of working with students in 3rd-5th Grades. Lower School students learn about the world around them through a variety of modalities and investigations, using their curiosity and creativity to explore and explain natural phenomena and human design. Students build skills in detailed observations, coding, engineering, the scientific method, and creative processes to think, make, test, and evaluate systems. The teacher will guide learners as they learn to use technology to investigate and influence the world around them, using tools such as Spheros, Lego Educational systems (Mindstorms or SPIKE Prime), digital probes, and other programs. This teacher will foster, guide, and focus children’s natural interests and abilities through carefully planned inquiry and project-based explorations.
LS Design: Science and art integrate deeply to design creative solutions to important problems. The science teacher and the art teacher collaborate on design projects that encourage students to think about a question, sketch a plan, test the model, and iterate the original concept while incorporating personal creative voice throughout. This art and science collaboration provides a unique platform for students to be creative, analytical innovators.
