McLean School (mcleanschool.org), a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland seeks applicants for a K-12 Academic Technologist to begin July 1, 2023.

The K-12 Academic Technologist  works as part of the Technology and Learning team to ensure the optimal use of technology in teaching and learning. This is a full-time 12- month position that works with students and teachers in all three of our divisions spanning grades K through 12. The K-12 Academic Technologist  reports to the Director of Technology Innovation but works closely with the Heads of the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. This job reports on-campus and is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

• Leadership
• Lead the school in the implementation of innovative technology to enhance teaching and learning
• Share expertise in the area of assistive technology to support students in the areas of reading, math, and executive functioning
• Provide thought leadership in the area of digital literacy, media literacy, digital citizenship, and student safety online
  
  
• Support Faculty and Students
• Collaborate with teachers to support best practices of technology usage in teaching and learning
• Facilitate professional development for faculty to increase competencies in the areas of technology to effect positive change within the classroom
• Assist in lesson planning that involves digital literacy and citizenship skills
• Create and implement faculty professional development related to academic technology skills
• Train students, faculty, and staff to use hardware or software in one-on-one or groups including assistive technologies like Google’s Read & Write, the Blackbaud Learning Management System (LMS), Google Suite, Seesaw and GoGuardian
  
  
• Teach Classes
• Teach Upper School students multiple times per month in the areas of digital literacy skills in the Community-Oriented Reflective Education (CORE) program
• Teach digital literacy modules for grades 5 through 8 over several months during the school year
• Teach digital literacy skills throughout  K through grade 4 dispersed throughout the year on an agreed upon schedule with the Lower School, division heads, and teachers
  
  
• Software and Database Support
• Manage aspects of the Blackbaud learning management system and other educational software tools including IXL, SORA, Learning Ally, Seesaw, Google Classroom and Read&Write.
• Maintain the list of educational Apps and subscriptions for the IPADs and chromebooks
  
  
• Research and Assessment
• Research, evaluate, and foster adoption of educational technologies
• Keep up-to-date on assistive technologies to meet the needs of the neurodiverse student population
• Attend and present at conferences related to education technology
  
  
• Academic Technology Resources
• Create, update, and maintain student and teacher resources for education software programs including shared materials and resource boards
• Stay up-to-date and share information on media literacy 

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology Innovation, which may include occasional weekend and evening hours.

Qualifications & Personal Attributes

The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for, and understanding of, and experience working with college-boundstudents who reflect a range of learning experiences. In addition, the candidate will have:

• Expertise with Macintosh computers, Chromebooks, and IPADs
• Knowledge of educational technology and best practices in the industry
• Experience with Google Apps for Education
• Strong organizational, technical, communication, and presentation skills
• Minimum of 3 years of full time equivalent work experience in Academic technology

• At least, 2-3 years of classroom teaching experience
• Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm during regular school and after school hours
• A love of learning about academic technology and thirst to stay current in the field

Qualifications - Preferred

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional or Academic Technology or related field preferred
• Knowledge of Blackbaud Student Information System
• Prior experience with G Suite administration
