The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates to fill the position of Middle School Math Teacher for the 2023-2024 academic year. Members of the math department work collaboratively in designing and delivering an outstanding math education to middle school students in a supportive, engaging and rich environment which values the whole child.
The ideal candidate has three or more years of highly successful formal teaching experience and demonstrated passion for and excellence in the teaching of mathematics and 21st century skills. We are particularly interested in candidates who possess an ability to teach a range of courses at the middle and high school levels, with a passion for teaching middle school students. The ideal candidate is creative and collaborative and has demonstrated success at and enjoys working as an active member of a team. Strong candidates have a successful record of nurturing confidence through relationships with students, are deeply knowledgeable about the subject area, and have demonstrated success in integrating positive behavior management in neuro-diverse classrooms.
Pay is commensurate with education and experience, and is calculated according to a school-wide pay scale. This position is eligible for benefits.
Responsibilities:
Teach math courses to middle school students in grades 6-8. Teaching assignments may include Math 6, Math 7, Algebra I, and/or Geometry;
Teach daily morning check-in, academic flexblock, and/or a weekly advisory or other experiential education courses;
Participate in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss student progress;
Work collaboratively within the Middle School faculty and Upper School math department;
The candidate must possess a BA or a BS in Math, Math education, or a related field; MA preferred but not required.
Candidates should have at least three years of successful teaching experience in collaborative working environments.
Familiarity and experience with Singapore Math and Math in Focus helpful.
Experience in differentiated instruction, project based learning, Collaborative Problem Solving, student-centered instruction and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred. Fluency with technology required.
