The Langley School, a PS-8 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks a flex/extended day teacher to begin this summer. We run an in-house substitute system (called “Flex” teachers). Flex Teachers will help execute daily lesson activities, provided by the absent teacher, in a safe and nurturing environment for students. This is a 11-month position that includes a competitive starting salary, paid time off and other generous benefits.
Extended Day teachers will help plan and execute daily activities for students in a safe and nurturing environment and assist with the daily operations of the program. Extended Day teachers will work as members of a collaborative team to deliver a program that is child-centered and focused on enriching the school experience for our students. Part of this program is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE)
Essential functions, duties, and responsibilities:
Ensure the safety and well-being of students
Consistently support and act in accordance with the school’s mission and values
Work a daily schedule of 8:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.
Provide teaching and supervisory support during the school day, following guest teacher plans and school rules/protocols
Interact positively and professionally with students in both academic and recreational activities
Collaborate with the Flex Teacher coordinator to respond to coverage needs as they arise
Uphold professional standards of punctuality, courtesy, reliability and discretion
Support and assist with management of Extended Day and related duties, such as planning, scheduling, and implementing the daily program schedule and supporting Extended Day’s alignment with the school’s curriculum
Collaborate with other Extended Day instructors and Director to create optimal student experiences
During the summer, shift support to the school’s Summer Studio program according to assigned responsibilities
May be asked to perform operational school duties
Qualifications/requirements:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience working with children required, and in a school environment preferred
Strong teaching skills including classroom management
Proven track record as a team player in the workplace
Proven ability to be flexible and respond proactively to daily changes
Experience in executing provided lesson plans
Written and oral communication skills
