Maret seeks a skilled and dedicated first grade homeroom teacher substitute to shadow and support the lead teacher of a class of twelve from Thursday, January 3 – Friday, January 26, 2024 and then take over as the sole teacher of the class from Monday, January 29 – Friday March 22, 2024. The homeroom teacher’s responsibilities are to teach language arts, math, and social studies. They work closely with their grade-level partner, the lower school math specialist, and the lower school learning/reading specialist to implement the first grade program using best practices. In addition, working in collaboration with resource teachers, homeroom teachers are expected to oversee the academic, social, and emotional life of each of their students.
Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment for equity and inclusion in their work. This position reports to the Director of Lower School.
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge of child development and a passion for teaching
Excellent classroom management skills
Experience differentiating instruction to support all learners
Strong writing/communication skills and proficiency in technology
The ability to foster meaningful connections with/among students and with parents/guardians
Experience as a lower school homeroom teacher (required)
Familiarity with Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop, Fundations, and Everyday Math beneficial
