Commonwealth Academy is currently seeking to hire a full-time temporary (with the possibility of becoming permanent) School Nurse beginning November 2024 through the end of the current school year.  Major duties and responsibilities of the position are:

• Provide professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates. 
• Administer medication to students in accordance with physician orders.
• Support students with medical conditions and share appropriate action plans with families.
• Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians, teachers and other school personnel regarding the health and safety of needs of students.
• Review and keep accurate physical and vaccination records in accordance with the Virginia Department of Health.
• Assist with the development and delivery of the school’s health curriculum.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues in accordance with federal and state privacy regulations.
• Prepare medications and first aid kits for school-sponsored field trips

Qualifications and Skills:

• Current Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing license to practice either as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
• Up-to-date American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications 
• American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor preferred
• Pediatric nursing experience required, 2 to 3 years working in a school setting preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and serve as part of a multi-disciplinary administrative team
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications preferred 
• Familiarity with electronic medical record platforms
