National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for a full-time Upper School French Teacher. The position begins August 14, 2025. The candidate will teach classes at different levels (Levels 1 through 5). Native or native-like fluency and experience in teaching French, are essential. The upper school French program introduces students to the fundamentals of French vocabulary, grammar, and syntax while fostering the skills required for foreign language study. The NCS French program focuses on developing students’ oral proficiency and cultural awareness, enabling students to communicate effectively in real-life contexts with other French speakers.

Teachers are expected to be on campus from 7:45a.m. to approximately 4:00p.m. Responsibilities for this position include collaboration and full participation in a schoolwide world language department to ensure excellent scope and sequence. Other responsibilities include participating in regular department, division, and faculty meetings, supervising one or more study halls, and serving as a homeroom advisor. For the position, NCS offers a salary range of $65,000-$140,000 based on experience and a full benefits package, including professional development opportunities.

The successful candidate is knowledgeable about Francophone cultures (ideally from direct experience living abroad); has significant teaching experience from introductory to upper levels; has experience in curriculum-building and design; is oriented toward an oral proficiency model; demonstrates mastery of a varied, creative array of pedagogical approaches; and has the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
