The Academy of the Holy Cross is accepting resumes for an English Teacher for the 2025-2026 School Year.
The Academy of the Holy Cross, a Catholic college preparatory school sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Cross since 1868, is dedicated to educating young women in a Christ-centered community which values diversity. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruct students in reading, analysis, writing, grammar, vocabulary development, and research methods
Introduce students to significant works of British, American, and World literature
Prepare for classes using formal, written lesson plans
Follow the syllabus for the course being taught and collaborate on pacing and major assessments with fellow teachers
Evaluate student work and maintain up-to-date records of student assessments and grades
Maintain a pleasant and productive class environment that is student centered and conducive to learning
Collaborate within the English department with other faculty and staff
EDUCATION:
B.A. in English or a related field; M.A. in English or a related field is desirable
EXPERIENCE:
2 years teaching English with proof of knowledge, content and skills
Experience teaching literature and composition; able to show an interest in and knowledge of British and American or World literature and the art of teaching academic, analytic writing including the research paper.
Experience with teaching or working with the assistive technologies of the iPad is desirable
SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing
Ability and willingness to plan and organize materials and lessons
Ability to work with colleagues in the English department to develop lesson plans, write assessments, and generally maintain academic standards
Flexibility in dealing with changing schedules and situations
Must be comfortable teaching students in an all-girls Catholic School
The Academy of the Holy Cross, is a private, Catholic high school (grades 9 - 12) for young women located in Kensington, MD. The college preparatory program reflects a holistic approach to education by fostering the intellectual, physical and moral development of the students. The school is sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross and has been in continuous operation in the Archdiocese since 1868.
