Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 315 NW Washington, DC students, seeks a full-time Assistant to the Director of Primary School. The Assistant to the Primary School Director is a division-wide position providing administrative, organizational, and programmatic support to the Primary School (grades K-5). This role is integral to Lowell School, requiring collaboration with students, families, faculty, and staff in alignment with the school's mission.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a school setting and have familiarity with progressive education.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Education or a related field
1 to 3 years of experience working in an educational setting
Required Skills/Abilities:
Professionalism and strong interpersonal skills in working with all school constituents.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Evidence of strong leadership qualities, including adeptness at active listening, providing and receiving constructive feedback, and taking different perspectives into account
Ability to consistently model high behavioral expectations for the school community.
Growth mindset, flexibility, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Google Suite.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Primary School Director to develop, implement, and assess divisional goals.
Support report writing, teacher hiring, and the new teacher onboarding/mentorship program.
Manage logistics for the school year, including faculty/staff duties, lunch/recess, and carpool.
Oversee guest teacher protocols and payroll.
Manage the divisional budget and track expenditures.
Coordinate internal events, field trips, and special events (BTSN, 5th Grade Moving Forward, etc.).
Coordinate the submission of school records for K-5 outplacement.
Serve on the Primary School Gathering (Assembly) committee and create special schedules.
Provide logistical support for Primary School professional development initiatives.
Provide support to the division director and leadership team as needed.
Serve on the Primary School Leadership Team
Attend bi-weekly meetings with grade-level teams
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
Long periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
