Lower School Head Teacher Description - Grade 3
The Langley School, a PS-8 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks a Grade 3 head teacher for our Lower School division for the 2022-2023 school year.
Guided by the theory and practice of the Responsive Classroom, our lower school teachers focus on the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of each child to create a nurturing and stimulating environment in which to learn. Grade 3 teachers are semi-departmentalized, meaning they provide instruction in one of the core content areas (math, humanities, or reading) in partnership with their grade-level team to three sections of students while also serving as the homeroom teacher for one of the sections. Additionally, lead teachers in grades one through five work collaboratively with special subject teachers in science, world languages, music, art, technology, library, and physical education to create integrated units of study.
Grounded in a deep respect for childhood, The Langley School offers an exceptional community and an inquiry-based academic curriculum paired with a unique social-emotional program for students in preschool through eighth grade. Since 1942, The Langley School has shaped confident, kind, self-aware learners who are prepared to thrive in the nation's top high schools and beyond. Langley remains committed to attracting and retaining exceptional faculty as members of our community who demonstrate a deep respect for childhood, are excited about being leaders in teaching and learning, and want to work in a highly collaborative environment.
The Langley School offers highly competitive salaries, excellent benefits, robust professional development opportunities, and tuition remission for faculty and staff.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, three-five years previous teaching experience preferred, excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfort with integrating technology into the curriculum, interest in collaborating with colleagues, and a passion for working with children required.
Given the current global context, specific risk mitigation strategies are in place to ensure the safety of all community members, including small, cohorted classes and other CDC best practices. Applicants must be willing to follow our COVID-19 Handbook policies, and should expect to teach both in-person and virtually, depending on our school operating status. Detailed information will be provided as part of the application process.
