The Academy of the Holy Cross is seeks a full-time Chemistry Teacher to join our Science Department for the 2026-2027 academic year. The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity about the chemical world and foster a deep appreciation for laboratory through engaging, student-centered instruction.
This educator will teach across levels, including honors and AP courses, and will design meaningful learning experiences that emphasize inquiry, problem-solving, and real-world application. The candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with colleagues to align curriculum, strengthen vertical coherence, and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives across the school.
The Science Department at the Academy of the Holy Cross fosters scientific literacy, curiosity, and critical thinking. Within our Physics First sequence--Conceptual Physics in 9th grade, Chemistry in 10th grade, and Biology in 11th grade--Chemistry plays a central role in helping students make sense of matter, energy, and systems. Additional opportunities exist to contribute to programs in engineering, maker space, and interdisciplinary STEM initiatives.

Principal Responsibilities:
Teach 5 sections of Chemistry, including honors courses and/or AP-level courses, using engaging, inquiry-based instructional practices
Design and implement laboratory investigations that emphasize scientific practices, data analysis, and real-world application, while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols and chemical management procedures
Create a student-centered classroom environment that supports diverse learners, fosters curiosity, and promotes academic risk-taking
Assess student learning through varied formative and summative methods, providing timely, meaningful feedback and adjusting instruction as needed
Collaborate with science department colleagues on curriculum development, vertical alignment, and assessment design, and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives across departments.
Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance instruction, communication, and student engagement
Communicate effectively with students, families, and school counselors regarding student progress and well-being
Engage in ongoing professional growth and contribute to a culture of innovation within the department and school
Participate actively in the school community through advising, coaching, club moderation, or mentorship
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Science Education, or a related scientific field required
Masters degree preferred
High school teaching experience preferred, but not required
Strong chemistry content knowledge and interests in laboratory-based instruction
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Commitment to supporting a diverse range of learners
Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and participate in the life of the school community
The Academy of the Holy Cross, is a private, Catholic high school (grades 9 - 12) for young women located in Kensington, MD. The college preparatory program reflects a holistic approach to education by fostering the intellectual, physical and moral development of the students.
