The Early Childhood Spanish Teacher is a key member of the Preprimary/Primary team, providing Spanish language instruction and cultural experiences for students in our preschool program (Preprimary 3s and Primary 4s). Under the supervision of the Associate Head of School for Teaching and Learning, this educator advances Concord Hill’s mission by fostering joyful, immersive Spanish language experiences rooted in natural exposure, authentic communication, and meaningful cultural connection.
The Early Childhood Spanish Teacher leads four structured Spanish classes each week and spends the remainder of the school day embedded within Preprimary and Primary classrooms, partnering with teachers to naturally infuse Spanish language and culture into children’s daily experiences. Through conversation, play, storytelling, music, movement, and classroom routines, the teacher builds foundational listening and speaking skills while nurturing curiosity, confidence, and cultural awareness. As a member of the preschool teaching team, this educator helps create a nurturing and engaging environment for young learners while providing authentic opportunities for Spanish language exposure throughout the day.
Responsibilities
Spanish Language Instruction and Cultural Exposure
Lead four weekly Spanish classes for Preprimary and Primary students.
Provide consistent, natural Spanish language exposure using immersion strategies appropriate for young learners.
Model authentic pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversational patterns through daily routines, transitions, classroom interactions, and play-based learning.
Builds foundational listening and speaking skills.
Introduces vocabulary through context, repetition, and meaningful interaction.
Integrates music, storytelling, games, art, movement, and hands-on experiences.
Exposes students to Spanish-speaking cultures through traditions, celebrations, stories, and perspectives.
Aligns with and complements the Preprimary and Primary emergent curriculum.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate Spanish language learning into classroom themes, projects, and investigations when appropriate.
Classroom Collaboration and Student Support
Serve as a consistent member of the Preprimary and Primary teaching team.
Support classroom routines and activities while naturally incorporating Spanish into daily interactions and experiences.
Work with students individually, in small groups, and occasionally with the full class to support language development, social-emotional growth, and engagement in classroom learning.
Supervise and support students during rest time, outdoor play, transitions, specials, field experiences, and other aspects of the preschool day as needed.
Maintain an inviting, culturally rich, and language-supportive environment.
Observe student engagement and language development and contribute to classroom documentation highlighting Spanish language learning experiences.
Qualifications
Experience working with young children in an educational setting.
Fluency in Spanish with native or near-native pronunciation and strong oral language skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Spanish, or a related field preferred.
Understanding of early childhood language acquisition and immersion-based teaching strategies.
Ability to design engaging, play-based language experiences aligned with emergent curriculum.
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
