Job Summary
The Woods Academy, an inclusive Catholic community in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking an experienced Spanish Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. Serving approximately 300 students from Montessori preschool through Grade 8, The Woods Academy prepares children to discover their talents, grow in faith, and lead lives of significance. With small class sizes, a robust, daily world language program, strong academics, and vibrant arts and athletics programs, The Woods offers a well-rounded education to students from Montgomery County, Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and beyond.
The Spanish Teacher will join a dedicated team of five world language educators and teach students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. This role involves developing engaging lessons that foster proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish while cultivating an appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues, communicate effectively with families, and contribute to the life of the school community.
The Spanish Teacher is a ten-month salaried employee. The annual salary range for this position is $60,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum & Instruction
- Design and deliver dynamic, age-appropriate Spanish language lessons.
- Incorporate cultural understanding into instruction to build global awareness.
- Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of learning needs.
- Assessment & Feedback
- Monitor and assess student progress in oral and written communication.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and prepare report cards as scheduled.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with the world language team on curriculum alignment and cultural events.
- Chaperone and help plan the annual Grade 8 cultural immersion trip to Spain.
- Maintain open, consistent communication with parents through updates, reports, and classroom platforms.
- Support and model the school’s high standards for academics and behavior.
- Professional Engagement
- Participate in grade-level meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Contribute to a collegial, respectful, and mission-driven school culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or Spanish required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
- Demonstrated success in teaching language at the elementary and/or middle school level.
- Knowledge of best practices in early language instruction and differentiated teaching.
- Strong technology, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to professional growth and collaborative teamwork.
