Maret has a possible opening for an inspiring and engaging English teacher beginning in August 2026. Candidates should be lifelong learners who reflect the school's mission and core values, have experience differentiating instructional strategies, possess strong communication skills, and exhibit a facility and nimbleness with technology. The position is supervised by the chair of the Humanities Department and includes teaching two sections of English. There is a possibility this position could be expanded to include additional humanities classes and/or coaching responsibilities in our athletics department. If this occurs, the salary will reflect the expansion.
Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to and passion for equity, inclusion, and belonging in all facets of their work.
The successful candidate will:
Have experience teaching English at the upper school level; experience teaching creative writing, history or interdisciplinary humanities is a plus;
Demonstrate a deep understanding of how to cultivate inclusive classroom environments that promote intellectual risk-taking and design student learning experiences that lead to long-term understanding;
Have prior experience teaching different forms of writing, facilitating student discussions, designing authentic assessments, and providing students with effective feedback;
Display enthusiasm for working with upper school students;
Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional development and collaboration with colleagues;
Have a minimum of three years teaching experience;
Have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, master’s degree preferred.
The salary range for this role is $28,400 to $48,800, depending on years of teaching experience and qualifications.
